What Music Means To Me 1

By Ruben Blue

Music is universal from sea to sea
the emotions we feel but cannot see
captured in time by invisible waves
embedded in memories that we save

Music flows freely from its source
like wind in the trees, an invisible force
Like waves in the air spread far and wide
unseen vibrations for our thoughts ride

Society does not give musicians their due
it's geared more for business and work too
some musicians may not be that good
so that could be part of it too

But those who are good are the best artists
their work is spectacular and easy to share
feeling the natural patterns and sounds
they can sculpt emotions out of thin air

A musician's art is more than Van Gogh
It's made with emotions, not paint or chalk
expertly crafted to let our thoughts flow
without clay or bronze or endless talk

Musicians are like the prophets of yore
foretelling the future from what came before
they can feel and tame the universe
and gift it to us, so pure and diverse

The most vivid portrayal of humanity
comes from music mixed with poetry
a song that can capture so much more
than words or art or exotic decor

There is no better way to express yourself
and the magnitude of all that we feel
than music because it's so simple and pure
straight from the heart, for our ears to steal

All it takes is some notes to bend
and your vocal cords to make it blend
and any instrument you may choose
to gain new fans just by playing the blues

How better to express your LOVE FOR SOMEONE
than To Love Somebody, a Bee Gees' vow
or from the Goo Goo Dolls song:
I Don't Want to Go Home Right Now

How better to express YOUTHFUL LOVE
than Brown Eyed Girl with a Valentine
or Joplin's Me and Bobby McGee
or GnR's Sweet Child o Mine

DISAPPOINTMENT is felt in Sand in My Boots
there's LONELINESS in Somebody to Love,
Blue Bayou, or Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain
DISPAIR is Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, thereof

AMERICAN PRIDE is the Star Spangled Banner
or Chuck Berry's Back in the USA
or Woodie Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land
or Springsteen's Born in the USA

SEXUAL DREAMS are Moody Blues
in their hit Nights in White Satin
GIRL POWER is Harper Valley PTA
and These Boots are Made for Walking

PSYCHEDELIC WONDER is Itchagoo Park
and the Magical Mystery Tour
and the Stones' She's a Rainbow
and the Airplane's White Rabbit

Nothing can capture the EUPHORIA OF STARDOM
better than The Byrds in Rock n Roll Star
or George Thorougood's Bad to the Bone
or Bad Company's song Shooting Star

The HIGHEST ENERGY you can feel
is Sex Pistols Anarchy in the U.K.
or the Beatles when They Say it's Your Birthday
or Ten Years After, Baby Won't You Let Me

The BEAUTY OF YOUTH is Sweet Little Sixteen
The Beatles' Seventeen, or Cooper's Eighteen
WOMEN'S song in Carol King's Tapestry
and MAN'S is Credence's Fortunate Son

How better to capture the feeling of BEING FREE
than White Bird or Let it Be
or in Doris Day's song Ce La VIe la Vie
or the Beatles' Ob-la-da, Ob-bla-di

HAPPINESS is Jimmy Cliff's Bright Sunshiny Day
HUMILITY is Tim McGraw's Humble and Kind
The beauty of silence and sweet harmonies
comes from Simon and Garfunkel's mind

SADNESS is Orbison's Only the Lonely
with classic blues chords and a rest
The EUPHORIA OF WINNING is so told
in Tina Turner's Simply the Best

All these are emotions of humanity
captured by songs so perfectly
embedded in our brain indefinitely
by our greatest art, music, absolutely
