Scratchin'83
By Ruben Blue

Listen to the song here

Ruben drove a red hot rod
His hair was midnight blue
He started Scratch in '83
for scenesters that he knew

a social media magazine
before the internet
It was a Hollywood yearbook
A Facebook Gazette

Top Jimmy played the blues
Kenny and Stu had Barbecues
At the Zero, John was king
Where local stars could be seen

[Chorus]
Scratch Mag had Punk and Rap
Rockabilly and Glam too
Heavy metal, art, and fashion
A scenesters witch's brew

Hollywood's Cathay de Grand
was where bands liked to play
The Radio was rap's first club
The Rhythm Lounge was new

Punks sat down on the sidewalk
Okie Dog was down the block
downtown clubs were going strong
Madam Wongs and The Hong Kong

[Chorus]
Scratch Mag had Punk and Rap
Rockabilly and Glam too
Heavy metal, art, and fashion
A scenesters witch's brew

Scratch Magazine was an art
Va Va Voom broke Be Bop's heart
Brenden's Masque was no more
The Fetish Club had goth decor

All of this happened in '83
Hanging out with Swan and Flea
Hollywood's clubs would all thrive
and SCRATCH was the archive
